Whimsical Children’s Museum Custom Furniture

Like many small museums, Kids’N’Stuff Children’s Museum in Albion, Michigan, makes the most of every little thing they have. For decades, their tiny front desk — itself re-used from an ancient, unknown previous life — served as a place for staff to greet visitors, answer questions, prepare materials for programs while watching the door, prevent kids from wandering into staff-only areas, apply bandages to owies, and so on.

Flutter & Wow designed, built and installed a brand new, one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art colorful, whimsical front desk — actually four desks! It swiftly changed the game for how and where staff work and how visitors are engaged.

A new admissions desk includes space for all of the check-in technology. There is an adjacent work desk for staff, an additional counter for sharing snacks with visitors already in the museum, and a big, round, low counter for small programs and activities, as well as engaging young visitors.

But to top it all off, we included some “easter eggs” for people to discover, like kid-level windows through which visitors can spy on little scenes set up by staff. Our friend, Rhiannan Sibbald painted the front of the cabinet to look like a whimsical city.

Flutter & Wow also designed and built a big, pink, eye-catching home facade and suite of corresponding child-size kitchen furniture and appliances for the museum’s Healthy Home area.
