River Ecosystem Wall Mural
Modern life does not afford people much time to ponder their watershed, much less visualize where the waters that flow through the river of their town come from and travel to. Children can grow up in a community without any understanding of how the river in the park connects them to a wider ecology as well as to other communities up- and downstream.
Flutter & Wow teamed up with illustrator Marissa Johnson to create a beautiful wall-sized mural of the Kalamazoo River for Kids’N’Stuff Children’s Museum in Albion. The children’s museum is just across a park from where two creeks join together to become the Kalamazoo River, which flows on, another hundred miles, to meet Lake Michigan.
Our mural includes cities along the river’s route and plants and animals common in the river’s watershed. And, appropriately, it’s installed in the water play room.
