Arctic Alcove Reading Nook

Arctic-Inspired Reading Nook

The “arctic shack” resting area in the arctic flight gallery, deep inside Detroit’s Henry Ford Museum had started to look and feel run-down. Its original special effects had long since run their course. Visitor services had temporarily converted it into a family reading nook which ended up being quite successful, but had always felt like a desperate if low-energy attempt to utilize an otherwise neglected space.

The Museum brought Flutter & Wow in to breathe some life into the shack. We removed all traces of aged-out features, designed and built a custom flat bookcase, and specified new furniture. We designed and implemented a firelight effect for the potbelly stove, and backlit winter windows. And we created a new sign that gave the space renewed, an intentional, purpose: Arctic Alcove.
