Great Lakes Children’s Museum

Guardians of the Great Lakes is an interactive children’s exhibition for the Great Lakes Children’s Museum in Traverse City. This fun, hands-on exhibition allows visitors of all ages to playfully explore and learn about all things Great Lakes. From the role of the the U.S. Coast Guard to the nature of waves, there’s plenty of maritime topics to investigate. Dive deeper into subjects about water and sea-going vessels, make learning about air turbulence a breeze, or wade into topics such as lake ecology – and much more!

Additionally, fully interactive exhibits let visitors take control of the experience. Play with aircraft controls in an elevated USCG helicopter. Identify native and non-native aquatic species of the Great Lakes using a custom puzzle game. Make waves in a one-of-a-kind 14-ft wave tank. Control the weather on the Great Lakes: let thunder boom, lightning strike, rain patter, and sun shine. Last but not least, visitors can even get the 16-ft rainbow to light up!
