Zoopraxiscope

Detroit Institute of Arts, 2013

Design and fabrication of working model/replica of pre-cinematic moving image device.

Designed and built for the Watch Me Move exhibition at the Detroit Institute of Art, the zoopraxiscope is displayed at the entryway of the exhibition. Before the movie film projector became the dominate technology, there were many proposals for moving motion image projectors. Our model is based on photographic pioneer Eadweard Muybridge’s 1879 zoopraxiscope, projecting images through rotating glass disks, providing a sense of motion.

Watch Me Move was organized by Barbican Centre, London.
