Digital Video Composition Exhibit
Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, 2013

Design, custom software and media installation.

Digital video brings new capabilities to the traditional technique of chromakey, also known as “green screening,” by which video images can be superimposed and mixed together, or “composited.” You might not know it, but you see the results of this technique frequently in science fiction movies, television commercials, and weather forecasts. In Pixel Play, you can be the subject of video compositing, and watch yourself fall into a plate of spaghetti, grow into a giant above a highway overpass, tumble in a laundry dryer, or swim in the deep ocean.

Research, design and fabrication.
In this timely and green exhibit, visitors are engaged in the topic of sustainability through everyday objects, activities, and technology. The visitor understands his or her role in sustainable practices via the context of the familiar and immediate: choices that I make today have a lasting effect. Numerous interactives provide opportunities for visitors of all ages to connect with the content. Excerpts from the grist.org book, Wake Up & Smell The Planet, are featured throughout.
